Lufthansa now charges extra for cabin trolley

FRANKFURT, Germany – Lufthansa is restructuring its fare system on European routes and introducing a new entry-level option without an included cabin trolley. Under the new “Economy Basic” fare, only a small personal item—such as a handbag or backpack—is included in the ticket price.

Passengers who wish to bring a larger carry-on trolley or check in baggage will need to pay an additional fee. The move aligns Lufthansa with pricing models already widely used by low-cost carriers.

According to the airline, the new fare is aimed at travelers flying light who want to benefit from lower base prices, while offering more flexibility in selecting additional services.

The new fare will be available for booking from April 28, and applies to flights from May 19, 2026. It will initially be introduced on selected short- and medium-haul routes within Europe. Existing fare options remain unchanged, continuing to include cabin baggage.
